Hey AEROS fans,

It’s been a long time since I last released an update for AEROS.
Some of you may remember the early days: AEROS for ARM and x86 – a unique hybrid distribution combining Debian Linux and AROS under one hood, allowing Linux software and Amiga applications to run side by side.

Now it’s time for a comeback – in 64-bit, with a new identity:

Blue Horn. 🎉
What’s New in AEROS 5 – Blue Horn
Base: Debian 13 (Trixie) – stable, modern, future-proof
USERLAND controlled by AROS 64 Bit based on Deadwoods repos

Wanderer modifications to launch files in Linux default apps if wanted

Access obmenu via custom AROS side launcher

AROS 32-bit “Classic Mode” – run legacy apps in parallel
Integrated SDK – making the transition from 32-bit to 64-bit development easier than ever

Hybrid Workflow – mix Linux tools with AROS software seamlessly

Optimized for modern hardware – while keeping that Amiga soul alive

Blue Horn theme – inspired by Trixie, the blue Triceratops from Toy Story, symbolizing strength, creativity, and a bit of playful nostalgia

Why “Blue Horn”?

The codename Blue Horn is inspired by Trixie, the blue Triceratops character from Toy Story.

Debian 13 – the base of AEROS 5 – carries the codename “Trixie,” and just like her, AEROS 5 represents a mix of friendliness, creativity, and capability.

The “horn” stands for:
Strength – a robust hybrid OS that blends Linux and AROS seamlessly.

Legacy – a nod to the classic Amiga spirit still present in AEROS.

Focus – like a horn pointing forward, Blue Horn is about moving toward a clear vision.

The blue represents:
Stability – Debian’s rock-solid foundation.

Trust – an OS you can depend on for both retro fun and modern productivity.

Nostalgia – a playful yet strong identity that bridges past and present.

In short, Blue Horn celebrates the Debian “Trixie” heritage while giving AEROS 5 its own unique personality.

A wip website can be found here, where you can also grab old releases for Raspberry Pi and Odroid:

With AEROS 64 I am targeting also at lowend Mac’s as Apple follows a strict 5 years support timeframe, a shitload of potential users do exist and are looking for a lightweight system.

This post was made using a mobile : ) excuse any formating issue. Will solve that next time when I am at a computer.

Hi Pascal,

Good to see this development.

FYI: since you are running Debian in the background, you could try installing AxRuntime and run 64-bit Odyssey from it, rather then from AROS. AxRuntime supports SMP and Odyssey gets around 20% performance boost when it can use additional cores.
