SanpOS 1.1 is almost ready, and I want your input first

SanpOS 1.1 is close to release. It brings visual changes across the desktop, plus the new Artcraft programs, which are made to work like Microsoft Office.

Before I build the release ISO, what else would you want to see in it?

Apps or tools you miss on AROS
Hardware you want working (Wi-Fi cards, touchpads, GPUs, printers)
Desktop or UI changes
Anything that annoys you in the current version

I can’t promise everything will make into 1.1, but I’ll read every reply and put the most-asked items into 1.1.33 or 1.2 Thanks!

You can check out the MintPrint - AirPrint port for Amiga. I've made a partially working port to AROS (it's on aarch64, but it's easy to check if it works on x86_64 - I don't have that kind of hardware). The printer preferences program worked for me, and the universal driver compiled - but I don't know how to direct the print to the printer.

Regarding the scanning program, I wrote one in Hollywood for the Amiga, MorphOS, and AROS 386. It uses the AirScan protocol. Unfortunately, there's no compiler for x86_64 or aarch64. You can run the 386 version on SanpOS using emu32, but unfortunately, this emulator doesn't support networking, so running the program on x86_64 will only show the GUI.

I started a port to C but stopped due to lack of time:
https://github.co...anner_lite
If you're interested, I can provide the code in Hollywood (a scripting language similar to Lua) for you to analyze. Send me a PM.

I hope you are using the *Crafts from me to avoid rework. If not - it might be beneficial to the whole community if we can merge the work. I'd also suggest using https://github.co...ak/arospkg for convenience.
All the crafts are there, plus a couple of other programs, and you can publish your own apps with it. We are currently merging it with Jonx's package manager to have one advanced package manager + publishing suite across x86_64, raspi/aarch, v1, and v11 architectures.

And Limpet as the Shell: https://github.co.../tree/main

Fingers crossed and good job!

I’ve been working on a new file manager for AROS written entirely in native C. It has a modern look, a sidebar, a breadcrumb address bar and light and dark themes. It uses your system’s own icons.

Nice work! I'm curious, though: AROS already has several file managers. What gap are you trying to address that existing solutions don't cover?

Have you considered building on an existing project, like Ferail, Magellan, Scalos or even default Wanderer, rather than starting from scratch?

I'm not trying to discourage new ideas. I just think that with our limited development resources, it's worth looking at opportunities to improve existing solutions before creating new ones.

@coffeecat
It seems to me that the author is simply trying to achieve a consistent look throughout the system. If I understood correctly, this is an original system based on AROS, not a regular distro based on existing system components and programs from other authors, which are not graphically consistent. I like it, though I also like Ferail. However, it must be admitted that both managers differ from the Amiga look and feel we're used to.
@SanpOS,
is what we're seeing based on Zune, or are you using your own framework?

I like this alternative for people who enjoy this type of file manager; I'd love to have it on my AROS One if you'll let me.

Your system is becoming increasingly interesting. I'd love to run it on a Raspberry Pi. Are you planning other platforms as well, or just x86_64?

@ SnapOS
Do you know MUI5 from MorphOS? Are you able to elevate Zune to MUI's5 level of possibilities? AFAIK Zune is based on MUI3.8

Great work Liking how this is progressing
A STEM-focused AROS distro is interesting

Way back in college, I found a basic 3D data plotting program that I put to good use in my science coursework I think it was called Multiplot It read the data and settings from a plain text file, then rendered the 3d view of the data plot The data was rendered as contour lines Different views were just editing the camera settings and rerunning the program It was very basic
A modern version with a GUI would be a great addition to the kind of tools you are looking for SanpOS to have

I know Blender is hard work, but it would be awesome and attract MANY new users

Multiplot XLN is the program I was trying to remember. It's still on Aminet. It was widely used in universities, produced publication-quality plots that appeared in journals, and worked from plain ASCII text files
Other data visualization tools would be good additions too

I also think that LaTeX and associated programs are a must-have, or Typst if you want to be more simplistic (it uses LaTeX templates)
It is still the de facto standard for scientific and technical writing in math, physics, CS, and much of engineering. Journals, conferences, and arXiv still expect or prefer LaTeX source

Multiplot XLN sounds awesome, plain text files in and publication-quality 3D plots out is seriously cool. And getting it into journals back then is even cooler. Thanks for the tip, I'll check it out on Aminet. Really appreciate the feedback and the ideas, LaTeX/Typst too!
