AROS.games is now available for download. It’s an AROS distro based on the 64-bit version of the ABIv11 2026.09 system released by Deadwood last month.

AROS.games is the distro I’ve always wanted to use myself. It includes games, the demoscene, emulators, and everything you need for everyday content consumption. Only good apps, without a ton of unnecessary junk. Everything else can be downloaded using Odyssey, which runs smoothly and stably on AROS.

There’s also the hit of recent days: the ArtCraft package. It’s installed via the AROS PkgManager so you can stay up to date with updates—which will certainly be plentiful for this rapidly evolving software.

AROS.games was designed to run on real hardware. The recommended motherboard and NVIDIA graphics card (up to GTX 980) will ensure an optimal experience.

List of recommended motherboards:
https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Aros/Platforms/x86_Complete_System_HCL#Recommended_hardware_(64-bit)

I use these configurations myself and can recommend them:

1. ASUS P8Z68V LX + GTX980
2. ASUS H81M-K + GT220

There’s also a version of AROS.games Portable available, which is essentially a specially tailored Linux + QEMU + AROS setup. It boots directly to the AROS desktop. If you have a modern laptop and want an easy way to see what AROS looks like, this might be the option for you.

Download links are available at https://aros.games

Thanks to deadwood, coffeecat, deremon, and farox, without whom this distro would never have been created.

Hello,
I saw you've included QuakeSpasm, isn't it? On AROS Archive I see only ancient and 32 bit versions of Quake series, where did you get it? By the way, I don't mind to port the latest YQuake2 to v11 (the only Quake I really liked), after I've finished with the newest Aliens vs Predator Gold edition, maybe has it been already ported and I'm not still aware?

I ported QuakeSpasm myself. I think YQuake2 is in the ports repository:

but I haven't checked this version from the ports; maybe all you need to do is update it

Congratz @retrofaza and I encurage everyone to try this new version of AROS.games. I've been beta testing it and if you are into retrogaming it gives you a really polished and out-of-the-box experience Smile
