Laptop Acer Aspire 5630 Model with nvidia graphics card, need to change compatible wifi card, LAN not compatible

Netbook Samsung NC10 fully compatible except for lan
Thanks for helping with the list of devices you have there liking that you've tested the network cardsand listed those results unfortunately ai I have not been able as a newbie to find where the network cards are and or a tool you might connect to a wireless network if you have a card that is compatible does it auto pop up like usb devices eg. mice and keyboards do or no is there a designated app which I assume there is that show your wired network adaptors and wireless network adaptors listed and let's us chokse a wireless network if applicaable from a list could you please drop a screenshot or a mini screen capture video if it is possible so we can see where and what we do to find them please this will help immensely we should really copy and paste all thiese posts of the compatible and incompatible systens we've listed here into a thread specifically just as a list with no quotes or replies allowed if that's possible to do I agree for someone who can do that to copy and paste from my responses here into a list on a new thread if your up to that I could compile the list in a notepad file then send it as a txt file if you want not sure if there is a way to send messages to specific users here is there?

It is not important to have a WiFi or LAN connection to connect to the Internet, you can connect the AROS One with "all phones" via "USB Tethering".

With the USB Tethering connection, no identification is required, no network name needs to be set, no user name or password is required.

By default, AROS One is already set up for "USB Tethering" connection, see screenshot !

Hi JumpingKiwi,
For wifi cards there's not a lot of choice; for mini-pcie it must be compatable with the Atheros5000.device (I have an AR242x device) or for a USB dongle it's Netgear WG111v3 (compatable with realtek8180.device). I'm afraid for both it's a case of hunting them down on ebay.

To set up the network, go to Prefs and open 'Network'. On the IPV4 Configuration tab set device and network details and on on the Wireless Networks tab set the details for your wifi - plese see attached screen-shots (although you'll probably want to select 'Start network during sustem boot'; I start mine manually as it makes it easdier to get on to my employer's wifi).

Cheers,
Nigel.

P.S. if you're collecting detals of compatable machines, the Samsung n130 is fully compatable including wired network (although as noted above you would need to source compatable harware for wifi).

Thank you ntromans for the help with where to find the settings for connecting wifi cards and wired internet adaptors etc I'd be lost without it, I will have a look a little later just watching a movie when it's finished I'll try to connect wuth that wifi card I have to see if it finds anything to join it probably won't work from what you told us about needing certain wifi adaptors but I will definitely try the pci one I have again now and a cheap usb one I have somewhere if I can find it I will see if that might also wor, thanks for the help.

What can't you find? If you have installed AROS One v2.5, just run the "Network" Prefs application located in the SYS:Prefs path.

If you have installed older versions of AROS One it is normal that "Tethering USB" is not present in "Network" Prefs
