Zune
aros user interface is based on zune but zune (mui) is very very old.
i don't think aros developer can mantain zune and go to a level like gtk.
Why not abandon zune and use gtk or qt instead?
Maybe is possibile porting more open source software and modernize operating system

all aros software is based on zune. By abandoning it you would have nothing left. Additional to have other gui interfaces would be possible in my view. You have that on AmigaOS 4 too. I think they have gtk there. Also Deadwood is planning to make it possible to combine aros and linux including using a amiga desktop, propably Scalos. Latest when this is the case problems are solved. Or you have Aros "pure" 64bit with zune.

Matteo, meanwhile, Zune represents a historic Amiga interface. I don't like Ambient, used by MOS, firstly because it includes all the preference apps in a single application, which is difficult to manage in the event of a bug that would cause all the system apps to malfunction.

Wanderer, with its great similarity to Amiga OS3, is very easy to manage, with each system preference having its own specific app.

Furthermore, Ambient is inspired by Scalos, which I don't like for the same reasons as Ambient.

In any case, AROS is ahead of MOS and OS4, which still run on old hardware or new hardware that is not up to date.

AROS can also run on a very recent PC and be operational from a DVD or Live Pendrive, both 32 and 64-bit, while Amiga OS4 and MOS do not have these privileges.

Staying with MUI keeps us in-synch with other Amiga NG flavors so software is released/compatible with all those systems. I believe that MUI is up to version 5 while I think Zune was based on 3.8. Has anyone compared MUI 5 to Zune?

I am no MUI expert so I cannot compare in detail. Basically it is based on 3.8 but for projects like Odyssey it is extended. So it is 3.8++ so to say

but by far certainly not a full MUI5 implementation. Something what would be necessary to run something like ambient. But honestly we not only have Wanderer, what was the original aros desktop, but also ports of Magellan and Scalos. I do not see the need for a desktop like ambient. And there are not that many new MUI applications that are open source and could be ported today. I have not looked in detail but the recent new apps on morphos like a new updated email client are done by team members and certainly not open source.

I have been using MUI 5 on my AfA One for a long time, and to be honest, there aren't many differences compared to Zune, although MUI 5 does add some features to applications designed for MUI 5.

AfA One can also use Zune, which gives the MUI apps a different look compared to MUI. See my first screenshot.

The only thing that isn't present on Zune (at least I think so) is a PatchASL included in MUI 5 that opens a much more complete Filerequest with lots of options, as you can see in my second screenshot taken on my AfA One.

If you are interested, there was a project for a bookshop. GTK+ to Zune/MUI (Magic User Interface) wrapper library, that makes it possible to compile GTK+ programmes for AmigaOS/AROS/MorphOS without any changes to the sources. The result is a native AmigaOS/AROS/MorphOS programme with a native MUI GUI.
