@emeck I see you used the VESA driver. Here are some times for comparison. VESA mode: Gf6200 / Gf8400 (fps) Gears ~= 70 / 77 Tunnel ~= 8.63 / 9.20 Gearbox ~= 3.3 / 3.6 Reflect ~= 39.4 / 44.7 Nouveau drivers: Gf6200 / Gf8400 (fps) Gears ~= 1150 / 1470 Tunnel ~= 343 / 438 Gearbox ~= 184 / 338 Reflect ~= 890 / 943

Re: Hw Review: Wireless for Every Arosian!
Hi rebaist, Much better reading. Thank you :) That is a really nice device. I never knew things like that existed. It seems indeed a good solution, since it does not require extra drivers. It would still require an ethernetcard that is supported by AROS not ? I found a english link here (as i could only find a italian manual/links). I know it is childish to say but still i couldn't help myself: Yes! finally a willy for my pussy :D

Re: Hw Review: Wireless for Every Arosian!
One of the most annoying things i've had to with aros is its lack of wide range of wireless driver. Basically there's only two: atheros5000 and rtl81xx. These are two chips you don't find so easily today and limited to G wifi. But not every nic based on those chipsets will work: you could buy two different rtl81xx network cards and you would have (maybe) one that works and the other not. If you're lucky. I have three usb rtl81xx bought on ebay. The first two don't work with aros. The third... sometimes will work, sometimes not. Today i was in a supermarket buying stuff for my house. I've found this: "Tele System Wi-lly 0.2 Plus" Basically it's a very little white box with a microusb port and two rj45. I read on the box: router wifi, access point, repeater, bridge. Best of the best it doesn't need external power (is usb powered). Price: 45 euro. Not so cheap but it WORKS. And I explain why: you plug a network cable and an usb one to it (there's both of them 10 inches long ones in the box). If your router supports WPS 2.0 just push the button on your home router. Otherwise you go in your OWB, fire up the web interface, choose your nework and you are online... (it supports WEP,WPA,WPA2, AES, TKIP, G and N classes) Obviously it stores your settings in its flash memory. Just plug it and you're online. NO MORE STRANGE WIRELESS NICS OR DRIVER. THIS IS WIRELESS FOR EVERY OS. You just need a working ethernet card... I've not discovered the moon but it's totally mobile. I'm now writing from my acer Aspire 3003 LM. without any chord, power cable or anything other. And i'm sure it will work even with my mos3.1 powerbook because it's simply a network card... I love simple things.. And this is not only a simple thing it's simply the fastest wireless aros connection ever made on this earth...

Re: Max Specs
I even believe it is actually 2gb hard_wired. If not mistaken that is because of the same 1 bit that is needed for returning a negative value if a dos-api-call fails.

Re: Max Specs
Also bear in mind that AROS is only capable of handling files up to 4GB of size - Unless it has been changed in the last few months, which then I stand corrected!

Re: My Aboxes!
@cavemann I left 1.4 under QEmu because I already had it set, just that. Haven't used it more really. GeForce4 is working fine for desktop stuff: text editing, pdf reading, window moving and resizing and such things. Also watching avi movies windowed or fullscreen with mplayer is very smooth. Haven't tried games. But here is some fps info from mesa demos. Gears ~= 50 fps Tunnel ~= 5.45 fps Gearbox ~= 2.1 fps Reflect ~= 27.2 And result from GLMark: Enter screen width: 800 Enter screen height: 600 Enter screen bpp: 8 Enter '1' for fullscreen '0' for windowed: 0 =================================================== OpenGL Information GL_VENDOR: VMware, Inc. GL_RENDERER: Gallium 0.4 on softpipe GL_VERSION: 2.1 Mesa 7.11 =================================================== Precompilation No Precompilation FPS: 4 Build list FPS: 2 Vertex array FPS: 4 Vertex buffer object FPS: 4 Texture filtering Nearest FPS: 5 Linear FPS: 2 Mipmapped FPS: 5 Shading Smooth shader model FPS: 2 GLSL per vertex lighting FPS: 2 GLSL per pixel lighting FPS: 2 =================================================== Your GLMark08 Score is 18 ^_^ ===================================================

Re: My Aboxes!
@cavemann: Nope. Simply this time I'd no time to test (I used a little every 1.5 wip but not extensively), so I waited 1.5 became the more stable 1.5.1 and installed it:)

Re: My Aboxes!
I see you guys are running both Icaros 1.5.1 and 1.4.x. My question is why run 1.4.x ? Are you having a problem the new kernel or graphics in 1.5.1 ? @ emeck How is the GeForce4 working out with Aros?

Re: Max Specs
you are correct trans. 64 bit is not happening for 'normal' (ABIv0) AROS. so that would be a problem to begin with. All (released) software is ABIv0. Also please note that even if you are able to stick in 4GB that AROS probably 'misses' the last 1GB because of 31-bit restriction. thank you for your posts btw. See PM for more details. regards,

Re: Max Specs
Okay. I'll stick to 4GB then, at least it will save me ~$20 ! I looked into 64-bit AROS, but it looks as if, driver wise, that's just not happening :(

Re: Max Specs
As you might be aware there are some restrictions to 32-bit systems (although there are some tricks to circumvent them), but in general and in particular for AROS (32-bit at least) it is restricted to 4GB of memory. Concerning harddrives, this depends on the filesystem being used. If i remember correctly sfs is capable of a maximum size of 127 (or was it 128) GB.

Re: Max Specs
Is there a maximum amount of RAM AROS can use? Would 8GB be pointless? What about harddrives, are there partition size limits? I did a quick google for these things but came up empty, so I thought I'd just ask. Thanks.
